About Nicole Potapa

People have the power to overcome adversity. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, my passion is to help you learn how to get back on your feet and find your inner strength, while supporting and empowering you. I am a down-to-earth and accepting person, which creates a safe space to discuss things that can be difficult to talk about. My objective is to create an atmosphere for personal growth, self-discovery, and an opportunity to learn healthier, more realistic, and positive ways of thinking without fear of judgment.

I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and am a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I serve a diverse population of individuals and couples and work with clients with an assortment of presenting problems, varying in severity. I have extensive experience working with people with severe and persistent mental health issues, including children, teens, and adults. Some of my past experiences include operating a suicide prevention hotline, working in a crisis residential home, and implementing and managing a suicide prevention program in public schools. I have worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospitalization, partial hospitalization, and outpatient facilities. I have experience treating people with mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder, relationship/codependency issues, behavioral problems, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, stress management, adjustment disorder, self-esteem issues, self-harm behaviors, and trauma/PTSD.

I have an eclectic approach to counseling and utilize techniques from multiple theoretical approaches to fit the needs of each person. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and person-centered counseling set the framework for me to be able to challenge you, be direct, and also meet you where you are—to be by your side in order to overcome the obstacles that hold you back.
